BolinOS   content management system

There are many ways to manage your web content. In the open source world we would like to list those in order for you to be able to compare and use the platform that is the best suited to your ideas, needs, taste and philosophy.

We have chosen PHP as the language we would use to develop our system because of the quality and possibilities it offers. It is simple and efficient, has ways to do almost anything for the Web and is simple enough for a non-confirmed programmer to do something efficient. We have however thought about the possibility of combining different languages in the BolinOS architecture, we have had php and coldfusion running side-by-side, we will soon use some Java too.

Compating different projects is also, we believe, the best way to enhance and make our common projects better! Open source might really compete the day we confront our diversities and construct from them. We did check the alternatives out when developing BolinOS, why bother reinventing the wheel if not necessary.

If you want to check for yourself, you might want to take a look at the www.opensourcecms.com website, where you can try all solutions before you install (thanks for Scott Goodwin, Dave Slipp, and Calvin Sov's great idea and website). There is also, for French-speakers, David Dufresne's very instructive www.boomtchak.net website.

This list is non-exhaustive of PHP-based open source content management systems (please inform us of other projects if you know some, thanks). We put one of the slogans we find on the original pages after the name, it gives some idea of what the projects are about, or about their philosophy... ;-)

There are also non open source PHP-based systems (we do not really favor these, but hey, there are some good ideas! ;-) ).

The non PHP-based systems...
