Open source licensing was chosen for many fundamental reasons. More than the BolinOS platform itself, what was crucial to us was the contents and applications we could create if we had a powerful and versatile system for online content management and application design.

Sure we could have made a commercial product and thus compete (or not) with other products available. The money we would have gained could then have been put back into the project. Maybe. We however chose to offer to all the possibility to make BolinOS their own project, and to help make it better.

Making BolinOS an open source project was fundamental because we could also confront our views on health-related internet software creation: bottom-up adoption, not top-down enforcement and wether or not this was viable.

It is finally a message to all who believe that the Internet and computers are not a finality in themselves but a fantastic way to help us enhance our work.

We believe open source to be the best peer-to-peer network for pragmaticity as it integrates intellectual-confrontation as well as real-world large-scale experimenting. :-D
